George Porter Jr Returns to Austin
The legendary George Porter Jr, of The Meters returns to The Parish in Austin, TX along side Runnin’ Pardners this Thursday night. Porter has been the bassist for the Meters since their formation in 1965. He’s played through the disbanding, the band’s reunion and their name change to the Funky Meters after the death of Art Neville. George Porter Jr.’s career as a bassist has spanned more than four decades.
Porter will be sharing the Parish stage with his own band, Runnin’ Pardners. Runnin’ Pardners started as a side project which consists of Brint Anderson [guitar & vocals], Terrence T Houston [drummer], Michael H Lemmler [keyboards], and Khristopher (Khris) Royal [reeds & EWI]. The band has become a model band for jam and festival circuits.
Thursday night is sure to be a night filled with Funk, R&B, Soul, Country, Folk, and Blues. Garret Lebeau Band will open and it is sure to be a treat. Influenced by Boz Scaggs, Van Morrison and other soulful singers of the late 60s and early 70s, Lebeau mixes his bluesy vocals with a country, soul, and folk flare. We can’t wait for this amazing show.
