Emo’s was filled to its brim on August 4, 2018 for the sold out Alkaline Trio show with opener together PANGEA. This show was the second of the bands first U.S. tour in three years, selling out weeks before, however ticket sales reopened the day of for die hard fans to come see this incredible show.
Alkaline Trio had a great performance, but that’s not why we’re here. Loud has been a fan of the opener together PANGEA for the past couple of years now and waiting patiently for their return to Austin. The Los Angeles based band formed in 2005 and has performed with acts like FIDLAR, Wavves, The Black Lips, Ty Segall and many more of their contemporary garage punk bands. The band is touring their 2017 album Bulls and Roosters, which is the perfect mix of solid rock and roll that will stand the test of time and the grungy, brazen garage rock sound that littered their previous albums, Badillac and Living Dummy.
Highlights of the night were performances of "Friend of Nothing" with it's interesting 80’s-like synth hook and light, upbeat sound that's almost reminiscent of beach rock. "Kenmore Ave." was also a fan favorite with a very 60s psychedelic synth rock vibe, paired with punky lyrics and William Keegan's signature raw voice.
We loved the songs "Money on It" and "Alison" with their sexy and soulful vibe that remind us of 70s rock like the Rolling Stones, but once again, the grungy voice and brash lyrics makes for a one of a kind sound.
Finally, the band finished with favorites from their junior album Badillac, playing "River", "Sick Shit" and the album's namesake, "Badillac", that really got the crowd in a tizzy. The majority of Emo's might have been there for Alkaline Trio, but we're putting our money on the idea that together PANGEA will finish this tour with thousands and thousands of new fans.
The band will be touring with Alkaline Trio through the remainder of August with two extra shows thrown in mid October. They recently released an acoustic album featuring the singles from Bulls and Roosters. You can find all of their music on Spotify and iTunes and check our tour dates here.
